CCHIT Certified®...
No Significance for Ophthalmology.
President Obama's recent Health IT
stimulus bill is a profound step towards interoperability between
different medical systems. The bill requires Electronic Records software
to be a "Certified EHR" system in order to qualify for the new
incentives. But keep in mind:
CCHIT is NOT the
certification authority.
The Department of Health and Human
Services will dictate the certification requirements. CCHIT is one
of many government approved certifying bodies that will certify
products under ONC-ATCB EHR Certification.
CCHIT Certified® was not intended for Ophthalmology.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology
recently stated in an article: "A lack of current CCHIT certification
does not have significance for eye care specialty needs"
The Chairman of the ASCRS
HIT subcommittee, David E. Silverstone, MD own words are "Current
certification standards actually discriminate against EMR systems
designed specifically for eye care."
CCHIT recognizes their incompatibility
with eye care for their CCHIT Certified® path, and has mentioned that they may develop a certification path specific
to eye care.
FAQ
Is EyeMD EMR certified?
Our system has achieved ONC-ATCB
Complete Ambulatory EHR Certification. This is all the certification
you need to help you achieve meaningful use.
Why is EyeMD EMR not CCHIT Certified®?
It is our desire to not
provide a bloated, generic EMR filled with features intended for other
healthcare settings. Our desire is to achieve the highest level of
satisfaction and compliance with our Ophthalmologist-only user base, and
compliance with Federal Regulations.
When will/how do I get my stimulus payment?
You will receive your stimulus payment
shortly after completing your reporting period (within a month). During
your first reporting period, if you achieve meaningful use for 90
consecutive days, you
will receive the entire payment available to you for the first year. You can
report during any 90 day period for your first year. Starting early will
allow you more opportunities if you do not achieve meaningful use in the
first 90 day attempt. For more
